We are committed to ensuring a safe and positive environment for all of our members. This means enforcing strong guidelines around treating each other with empathy and respect. As a member of our community, we expect you to live these guidelines and do your part to support an environment that is respectful and productive for all.
1. I WILL SHOW THE SAME RESPECT I EXPECT OTHERS TO SHOW ME
We’re building a positive, diverse community. Respect is the underlying behavior that we expect from each of our members. The below guidelines should go without saying, but they are necessary to outline in clear terms.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for any content that contains hate speech, content that targets individuals in a degrading or shameful manner, content that is meant to blackmail or harass an individual, or repetitive unwanted messages or behavior. It's never OK to encourage violence or to attack anyone based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or physical health or ability. Additionally, we do not tolerate any support or praise of terrorism, organized crime, or hate groups/speech. If hate speech is being shared to challenge it or to raise awareness, we may allow it. In those instances, we ask that you express your intent clearly.
Serious threats of harm to public and personal safety aren't allowed. This includes specific threats of physical harm as well as threats of theft, vandalism, and other financial harm.
2. I WILL FOSTER APPROPRIATE, THOUGHTFUL INTERACTIONS
Use the social features of Public to share your ideas and reasoning, and learn from other investors by asking questions. We value quality, factual information in the Public community, so share ideas and information that you’re confident in, not things you made up or are otherwise unsubstantiated.
As is the case with many constructive conversations, differences in opinion are bound to arise. Iron sharpens iron. We ask our members to approach disagreements in thought with an open mind, and argue the idea instead of resorting to personal attacks, humiliation, or intimidation. Any behavior that intentionally promotes the creation of a toxic environment will not be tolerated. Keep in mind that tone is not always easy to interpret, and always lead with kindness and respect.
Please also be thoughtful when posting about current events. We live in a time of unprecedented partisanship, and ask that you keep this in mind in your conversations on Public. While current events tend to affect the business world and vice-versa, please stay true to the purpose of this platform: to share ideas about investing and learn together. We reserve the right to remove content as it arises to ensure conversations remain productive and appropriate for all of our members.
3. I WILL REPRESENT MYSELF ACCURATELY
We are a real-name community, because the strength of our community lives in the trust built through dialogue between individuals and the sharing of their unique perspectives. You may not impersonate another individual, group, or commercial entity, (including both public and private companies), or create a Public profile that is intentionally deceitful.
4. I WILL AVOID SPAMMING OTHER PUBLIC MEMBERS
Please help us stay spam-free by not posting repetitive comments or content or contacting people for commercial purposes without their consent. We don’t mind if you share links to personal websites, provided that they are relevant and appropriate, but commercial solicitations, third-party affiliate links, referral links to other sites and platforms, and straight-up advertising are not allowed.
5. I WILL LOOK OUT FOR THE PUBLIC COMMUNITY
Each of us is an important part of the Public community. If you see something that you think may violate our guidelines, please report it by taking a screenshot and contacting the Public support team via email or live chat. When you complete the report, try to provide as much information as possible, such as links, usernames, and descriptions of the content, so we can find and review it quickly. We may work with law enforcement, including but not limited to cases in which we believe that there’s a risk of physical harm or a threat to public safety.
If you encounter content you don’t like, but that doesn’t violate these Community Guidelines, you can unfollow the person who posted it or block any member who you do not wish to interact with.
