How can I find my cost basis and tax lot information?

Updated over a month ago

What is cost basis?

Cost basis is the original value of an asset for tax-reporting purposes. It generally includes the purchase price of the security, along with any applicable commissions, fees, or adjustments, such as those related to wash sales. Cost basis is used to calculate the capital gain or loss when an asset is sold.

You can view your cost basis information in the Public app and on the Public website. Cost basis for securities that have been sold will also be reported on your consolidated Form 1099, which is issued by our clearing firm, Apex Clearing.

To view cost basis in the Public app:

  1. Tap Brokerage in the top-left corner

  2. Select Cost Basis

  3. Choose the account and view either realized or unrealized cost basis

To view cost basis on the web:

  1. Click the Brokerage icon in the top-right corner

  2. Select Cost Basis

  3. Choose the applicable year and whether to view realized or unrealized cost basis

The information displayed in the app and on the website is provided for informational purposes only and does not replace your official tax documents. Tax forms produced by our clearing firm are the official record of tax-reportable activity in your account.
