In order to invest in the stock market, you have to be at least 18 years old (older in some states!). However, legal guardians can create brokerage accounts for those under 18 through what's called a Custodial Account.

What is a Custodial Account?

Custodial accounts allow legal guardians or custodians to create accounts for the benefit of a beneficiary (someone under 18 years old.) Once that beneficiary turns 18, the account can be transferred to their name and they will have full ownership and control over the funds in that account.

Are Custodial Accounts Available on Public?

Right now, custodial accounts are not available on the Public platform. That said, we're always adding new features, so if you'd like to be notified if we ever offer custodial accounts, give us a shout in the app's Live Chat or via email at support@public.com! 🚀

Can I still Download Public if I am under 18?

The awesome news is that anyone under 18 can totally download the app and use an inactive version! They'd be able to follow other investors and learn a lot that way, too!
