Every 15 minutes, a new market opens for an underlying asset with a set target price. You choose whether the asset’s price will finish above or below that target when the 15 minutes end.
Key terms
Target price: The price level that determines the outcome. It is not the price you pay to trade the contract.
Up: You predict the asset will finish above the target price.
Down: You predict the asset will finish below the target price.
The outcome depends on the asset’s price at the market’s designated end time. It does not matter whether the price crosses the target at any point during the 15 minutes.
Example
You open a Bitcoin market with a target price of $70,000 and a window of 2:00 PM to 2:15 PM. You choose Up.
If the official settlement price is $70,100, your prediction is correct.
If it is $69,900, your prediction is incorrect.
You only need to predict which side of the target price the asset finishes on, not how far it moves. The exact-target-price outcome is governed by the contract’s settlement rules.
How to make a prediction
Browse the available 15 Minute Markets and select an asset.
Review the target price, time remaining, and the Up and Down positions.
Select your prediction and enter the amount you want to trade.
Review the order details and submit your trade.
After you trade, you can monitor your position as the asset’s price changes and the market approaches its end time. Each market has its own target price and expiration time, so review the details before you trade.
Contract prices and payouts
The contract price is the amount you pay for a prediction. It is separate from the asset’s target price. Event contracts generally have binary outcomes: they pay a specified amount if your prediction is correct and nothing if it is not.
In a standard contract that settles at $1 for a correct prediction and $0 for an incorrect one:
A contract bought for $0.40 pays $1 if you are correct. That is a gross profit of $0.60 per contract, before fees.
If you are incorrect, the contract settles at $0. You lose the $0.40 purchase price plus applicable fees.
This is an illustrative example. The exact contract specifications and fees govern your trade.
Trading on Public incurs a $0.02 fee per contract, which consists of a $0.01 exchange fee and a $0.01 commission. Review our complete fee schedule here.
All applicable fees are displayed on the order review screen prior to trade execution, ensuring full transparency regarding your total cost upfront.
How markets resolve
At the end of the period, the official settlement price of the asset is compared with the target price. If the result matches your prediction, the contract settles as a winner. If not, it settles as a loser. The official settlement price is set by the contract’s rules and designated price source. It may differ from prices shown on other exchanges, charts, or platforms, because sources can use different methodologies or timestamps. Once settlement is processed, your account reflects any payout.
Can I sell before the 15 minutes are up?
A contract’s value can rise or fall before the outcome is determined as the asset’s price moves and time runs down. Where selling before settlement is supported, you may be able to close your position at the available market price. This is different from receiving the final settlement payout. What you receive depends on the execution price and any applicable fees. The ability to close a position depends on the contract’s trading rules and available liquidity, and an exit at your desired price is not guaranteed.
