How Do I Invest In Alternative Assets On Public?
Updated over a week ago

NOTE: At launch, secondary market trading will be the only way to purchase shares of alternative assets on Public. That said, in the near future we plan to launch initial offerings relating to new assets. The instructions for investing in initial offerings will be included here once initial offerings are available on Public.

Buying from Secondary Market Trading

  1. Locate an asset you want to buy. Tip: several lists of popular alternative assets will be featured on the “Explore” tab of the app. Please note: initially, buying and selling of alternative assets will only be available in the mobile app.

  2. If you haven’t done so already, you will be prompted to “Enable Alts” in the app. Do so to proceed.

  3. If you don’t already own shares, simply tap “Buy.” If you do own shares of the asset, first tap “Trade” then tap “Buy.”

  4. Read the asset warning and “Slide to confirm” that you want to proceed.

  5. Enter your limit price (the maximum you’re willing to pay per share) as well as the number of shares you wish to buy. You may tap on the “i” in the price row to view the order book.

  6. View the estimated total for your order including fees and tap “Next.”

  7. Review your buy and tap “Submit.”

  8. Your order will be added to the order book, and you will be notified when your order is executed. Note that buying power is removed from your account when you place an order; however, it will be returned to your account should your order be canceled (either by you, at market close due to partial fill or through not being executed after 90 days).

  9. Once your order is executed, you may view your new shares on your Portfolio screen.
