You no longer need to maintain $25,000 to day trade. However, to use margin buying power on Public, you must maintain a minimum of $2,000 in your margin account.
Day trades are subject to the new intraday margin standards, which require your account to maintain sufficient equity relative to your open positions at any point during the trading day.
