How do I manage my margin investing?

You can review your margin investing at any time in your account settings under Margin Management. Instructions for finding Margin Management are below. In your Margin Management screen, you will see details on the amount of marginable assets you have available and the size of your margin loan.

How are margin loans charged interest?

Margin loans accrue interest based on the daily balance of your margin loan. Interest payments are deducted from your account on a monthly basis. The interest period starts on the 16th of the current month and ends on the 15th of the following month. Rates are subject to change and can be found on Public’s schedule of fees.

How do I pay back a margin loan?

Any settled cash added to your margin account will automatically reduce your margin loan if you have one. This means that you can sell securities or deposit funds in your margin account in order to reduce or close your margin loan at any time.

When do I need to pay back a margin loan?

Unlike a traditional loan you might get at a bank, there is not a set timeline for paying back a margin loan. There is no requirement to pay a margin back on a particular timeline. The exception is if your account triggers a margin call. This typically happens if the value of your marginable securities declines significantly. You can review how much your account would need to decline in value before a margin call in the Margin Management section of your account settings.
