Margin investing, or margin lending, is an extension of credit to you based on your current margin-eligible securities and cash. Margin-eligible securities are stocks, bonds, and ETFs held in your main brokerage account.

Before you enable margin lending, please make sure you meet the criteria for a margin account:

Enable a margin account: A margin account, unlike a cash account, allows you to be eligible for margin investing.

Meet margin account minimums: To enable margin lending, you must have at least $2,000 in cash marginable securities in your brokerage account account.

To enable margin lending, you can follow the steps below:

Enable Margin Lending:

In-App:

● Select the Menu icon ≡ , the icon in the top left corner

● Tap Account Settings

● Scroll down to Investment Settings and click on Margin Management

● Click on Enable margin investing

Review how margin investing works, your investor profile, and agree to the margin agreement to start using margin lending.

On Public.com Web:

● Select the Menu icon ≡ , the icon in the top right corner

● Tap Settings and Privacy

● Under Account click on Margin Management

● Click on Enable margin investing

Review how margin investing works, your investor profile, and agree to the margin agreement to start using margin lending
