We designed Messages to make it easier for people to have productive discussions about investing. Whether you’re sending a direct message to a friend or discussing an industry that you’re interested in with a group of fellow enthusiasts, this feature was designed to keep you connected with fellow investors.

The basic functions are explained below, and remember, the Public community is designed to be a friendly, safe, and fun environment for all investors, so community guidelines apply in all direct and group messages.

Send a message: Ready to send a message? From the messaging page, tap the Compose icon at the top right of the screen. Search the name of the friend or friends you want to message together, and send your first note. Groups can hold up to 100 people.

Add someone to a group message: If there’s another community member that you want to include in the conversation, the more the merrier! From the messaging page, select the message thread that you want to add someone to. Tap on the “add person” icon at the top right of the screen, and at the bottom of the list of current members, you’ll see an option to add someone new to the group.

Share an investor’s profile or a specific stock: You can easily embed a stock chart or a Public member’s profile within a message. Tag a stock by typing its ticker symbol (starting with $) or reference another member by @-mentioning their handle. Note: When you reference another member, they will not be added to the group.

Customize notifications: Need a break from notifications of a certain conversation? From the messaging page, select the conversation that you want to mute. Tap the name of the thread at the top of the screen, until you see the “Mute Notifications” button. You can toggle this button on and off whenever you’d like.

Report inappropriate behavior: We are committed to upholding a respectful and constructive environment for all of our investors. If you see something that makes you uncomfortable, please reach out to us at support@public.com and we’ll help resolve the situation right away.

Block Feature: If you ever want to block a fellow Public member for any reason, you can easily do so right on the app by visiting their Public profile, selecting the 3 dots in the top right corner, and select block. If you ever receive messages that make you uncomfortable, please reach out to us at support@public.com and we’ll help resolve the situation right away.

Leave a group: Not interested in being part of a certain thread anymore? No problem. From the messaging page, select the conversation you want to leave. Tap the name of the group at the top of the screen, and scroll down to the bottom. You’ll see a red button that says “Leave Conversation.”
